Our Blog showcases just a few of the highlights at OLM including our staff video messages and songs when the children were at home engaged in remote learning. We missed the children so much but were delighted with the responses to our parent survey about the quality of education received by the children when learning from home in Lockdown.

A recipe for success!

admin on: Our Lady of Muswell School Blog

At our first assembly of the year, children from year 1 to year 6 created a recipe for success. We thought about what we needed to have in our school cake to ensure success and happiness throughout the year. The children's wonderful imaginations shone through and they came up with a real recipe for success!

Ben Wilson - Chewing Gum Man!

admin on: Our Lady of Muswell School Blog

Year 4's Art topic this half term is called "Which local artist lives near here?" and OLM are lucky enough to have one living just up the road- Ben Wilson Chewing Gum Man. Ben visited Year 4 this week and showed us all his work. He is pro-environment and helps make streets look colourful by painting patterns and pictures over old, flattened chewing gum on the pavements which are meaningful to the members of public in Muswell Hill. Year 4 walked around Muswell Hill looking at all his work and he even painted one for OLM situated near Planet Organic. Back at school, the children got to create their own chewing gum designs! What a fun day!

Primary Stars Day!

admin on: Our Lady of Muswell School Blog

Today KS2 enjoyed a Primary Stars Day. Danny, and his team of coaches from Tottenham Hotspurs kicked off the day with an assembly where they shared the Premier League Primary Stars values.

  • Be ambitious – work hard and never give up on their goals.
  • Be inspiring – set a great example to others.
  • Be connected –work well with others and in a team.
  • Be fair – treat people equally and think of others.

Each class in KS2 enjoyed 2 lessons, "Roving Reporters" and "Sky Ocean Rescue" throughout the day. To finish off, the coaches met everyone for a final assembly and presented awards to some star pupils!

Refugee Council Chief Executive visits Our Lady of Muswell Catholic Primary School

admin on: Our Lady of Muswell School Blog

Maurice Wren, Chief Executive of the Refugee Council visited OLM yesterday morning as part of the school’s Welcome Week for refugees. Mr Wren spoke to our Year 6 pupils and answered a range of questions covering areas like: negative media portrayal of refugees, people smuggling and Britain’s history of helping refugees.Mr Wren said: ‘It was a pleasure to speak to these incredibly well informed pupils. Their questions showed their knowledge of refugees and the issues facing them.’ ’

More on Welcome Week - The children listened to a whole school assembly led by a representative from CAFOD (Catholic Agency for Overseas Development) on Monday and have taken part in a range of activities all week. Children have written messages of hope to be placed on a Lampedusa cross (a cross made from the driftwood of refugee boats crossing the Mediterranean). Each child has written a message of hope on a piece of paper that has been transformed into an origami boat. The boats will be delivered (by the Children’s Society) to refugee families across London who will be able to read the children’s messages of welcome when the boats are unwrapped.  Our children have really taken to heart the three key messages of Welcome Week: Welcome, Hope and Tolerance. We are immensely proud of them.
