Art at OLM

At OLM, through our high-quality art and design curriculum we want children to be  engaged, inspired and challenged. We  equip children with  the knowledge and skills to experiment, invent and create their own works of art, craft and design. At OLM, we plan inclusive lessons, taking into account all pupils’ needs and celebrating individual expression. We challenge stereotypes around being an artist and promote positive attitudes.

In Early Years, the art curriculum is taught through the main area of ‘Expressive Arts and Design’. Children are provided with frequent opportunities to participate in creative activities that involve various forms of art using a variety of different materials. For example, children will create their own paintings by exploring colour and colour mixing, as well as exploring different paint types such as watercolours, ready mix, acrylic and powder paint. They also learn about different artists and their work.  a

Art & Design is taught alternately in half term blocks in years 1 to 6. Kapow Primary’s Art & Design programme is utilised as it provides opportunities for every child to develop their ability, nurture their talent and interests, express their ideas and thoughts about the world, as well as learning about art and artists across cultures, reflecting many of the cultures within our diverse school, and through history.
